Sin City reviewed in NY Press

There are two weird things in this review of Sin City: Is the plural of “comic” really “comix?” Is he actually insinuating that director Robert Rodriguez put in a swastika-shaped shuriken to appeal to a hypothetical Jewish media? (Fourth paragraph.) What the heck? Personally, I’m conflicted over seeing the movie in the theater. Pro: It’s directed by Robert Rodriguez. I like his El Mariachi series. Pro: I like the look of the film. The B&W effect looks interesting. ...

Terri Schiavo passes away...

And is at peace, despite the continued conflict outside. “And so his heartless cruelty continues until this very last moment. This is not only a death, with all the sadness that brings, but this is a killing, and for that we not only grieve that Terri has passed but we grieve that our nation has allowed such an atrocity as this and we pray that it will never happen again.” - Frank Pavone ...

Much ado about something

Looks like the official site for WordPress got caught gaming search engines, specifically Google. Not illegal — despite some talk about violating Google’s Terms of Service — but annoying. The situation has now turned to questions of great ethical import, such as “How open do open source projects need to be about their funding” and “What responsibility does an open source community have in this situation?” You know, the kinds of questions open source folks agonize about every few weeks. ...

Talking technology in Butler County, Ohio

Okay, perhaps local officials everywhere can’t be trusted to learn the basics before making public statements. Subdermal GPS chips don’t exist yet! You’re thinking of those microchips they scan at the vet’s office! And, once again, I can only hope the Sheriff was joking when he was talking about electrically shocking parolees who were doing things in violation of their probation. I can sort of see it working as an Invisible Fence for keeping people in a certain area — if you had the GPS tracking chips — but the last time I saw a chip that shocked someone because of their behavior, it was on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. ...

Broncos assimilate Browns

During the past few months, the Denver Broncos hired the Cleveland Browns’ former defensive line coach, and then added three Browns’ defensive linemen through trades and free agency. So, the plan for the upcoming season is to emulate the defensive prowess of the Browns, who gave up the fourth-most points in the NFL last year and finished 4-12? Is this belated revenge for The Drive, or has Denver decided former Browns’ coach Butch Davis was so bad he even kept a good defense down? ...

DA investigates D&D connection

What? Was he making a joke during a news conference about multiple murders? “I mean, you have many, many stab wounds and those ‘Dungeons and Dragons’ fantasy games involve swords and knives and daggers and things of that nature. There may be a connection but I can’t say for sure.” Link courtesy of Gamegrene
