Eddie Guerrero, 1967-2005

Eddie Guerrero passed away this past Sunday. I’m sitting here watching men and women who worked with him crying as they pay tribute to him both through their words and through their work. They aren’t folks you would normally see cry. You see, Eddie was a professional wrestler.

Jawad Williams goes to Europe

Recent National Champion Jawad Williams, UNC grad, has played his first game for Spain’s Alta Gestion Fuenlabrada, a team located just outside Madrid. Also, in the same article: Fellow UNC grad Jackie Manuel is about to start the NBADL season with the Fayetteville Patriots. Oddly enough, Wake Forest’s Taron Downey was released from the same team last week. (I don’t know know the reasons behind it, but if he wants to, I hope Taron can play basketball somewhere. He’s an impressive player.) ...

Measure Map

I’m currently trying out the alpha version of Measure Map, a new blog statistics application. So far, so good, and I like the reporting interface. Anyway, since there is code on each page, let me know if you experience any technical problems.

The Legend of Me, By Jack Handey

“People are always asking me if there’s anything they can carry or wear or hold up in front of me that will frighten or repel me. I’ll be honest with you: just about anything you suddenly hold up is going to frighten me.” Courtesy of McSweeney’s

You’d be recognized as such if you weren’t always talking about talking rabbits. ...

Happy Birthday, Tom Petty!

…and me. :) I spent the day working with my department to launch three redesigned sites and a new search. So, in case anyone is wondering why I haven’t been posting much lately… :| However, the best part was coming home to my wife, who took me out to dinner and gave me presents, despite my insistence that I wasn’t really planning to celebrate it this year. It’s sometimes good when you get ignored. :) ...

Jackie Manuel to NBADL

Jackie Manuel will be expanding the posse to Fayetteville, NC. He has signed to play for the National Basketball Association Development League’s Fayetteville Patriots, as has Wake Forest’s Taron Downey. Good going, Jackie! :) (Since he’s so close, maybe he can stop by Chapel Hill and teach the new UNC players how to play defense.)

McCain vs. Taft

Ohio Governor Bob Taft has to be wondering about his luck. His approval rating goes down to 15%…probably due to episodes such as this. And then a popular Senator from Arizona stops by his state and declares that he would resign if he had those poll numbers. :)
