Random Stuff, List 2

More random stuff I thought I’d blog about, but haven’t: Three lies about social software - I can’t state it any better than this: “The ’team’ represented by a given blog community is actually a collection of incredibly diverse people, with common interests rather than common views.” Link courtesy of Too Many Topics, Too Little Time. Random stuff from the past

When I run across interesting things to link from my blog, I usually send them to my Gmail account with the best intentions of blogging about them “when I get some time.” Well, that doesn’t happen as often as it should, so I’ll clear out a few items now: 5 Lamest Charlie Brown Cartoons - 10 Zen Monkeys covers the five worst Peanuts animated specials. I can’t agree with the inclusion of Snoopy, Come Home, though. Link courtesy of TV Squad. ...

Connecticut for Lieberman

After Joe Lieberman was defeated in the Democratic primary for Senate, he presented himself to the Election Board as the candidate of the Connecticut for Lieberman Party. Since the CFL Party didn’t seem to have any actual members, John Orman decided to switch his party affiliation to the CFL Party, and has now elected himself chairman of the party. Here are some of the new rules he’s passed so far: If you run under Connecticut for Lieberman, you must actually join our party. ...

Donald Rumsfeld is gone...

…there’s a Democratic majority in the House and Senate… Who could have predicted such a thing?!? :) Seriously, when I — who grew up Republican and liked Reagan in the Eighties — think the best news I’ve heard all week is that the Democrats won and Rumsfeld is out…well, you know you probably aren’t energizing the base to come out and vote for your party. I don’t expect too much of my government, I don’t think, but here’s what I hope happens the next two years that didn’t happen in the last six: ...

Just as long as they aren't ninjas...

Should we treat terrorists as pirates? What is needed now is a framework for an international crime of terrorism. The framework should be incorporated into the U.N. Convention on Terrorism and should call for including the crime in domestic criminal law and perhaps the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court. This framework must recognize the unique threat that terrorists pose to nation-states, yet not grant them the legitimacy accorded to belligerent states. It must provide the foundation for a law that criminalizes not only terrorist acts but membership in a terrorist organization. It must define methods of punishment. ...

Kneel Before Zod

General Zod for President in 2008 When I first came to your planet and demanded your homes, property and very lives, I didn’t know you were already doing so, willingly, with your own government. I can win no tribute from a bankrupted nation populated by feeble flag-waving plebians. In 2008 I shall restore your dignity and make you servants worthy of my rule. This new government shall become a tool of my oppression. Instead of hidden agendas and waffling policies, I offer you direct candor and brutal certainty. I only ask for your tribute, your lives, and your vote. - General Zod ...

Minutemen vs. Socialists

Ah, Greensboro, my hometown… :| Seriously, if groups like the Minutemen think Greensboro, NC, is a good place to stop and garner support, we need to print up some kind of pamphlet about 1979 just so we can hand it to them. Not to put it lightly, but Greensboro is gunshy about controversial protests, for very good reason. BTW, compliments to Joe Killian for working a Red Kryptonite reference into his story. :) ...
