Senator speculates activist judges lead to violence

Time for Senator John Cornyn to apologize and resign. Now. And perhaps he could give Representative DeLay a ride home? (Does he really want to think that one out too far, given the way Americans are supposed to feel about Congress?)

Weirdness at NC Wesleyan

I only hope the date updated (4/1/05) on this professor’s webpage is indicative of the spirit in which it was offered. :| Link courtesy of EdCone.com

Talking technology in Butler County, Ohio

Okay, perhaps local officials everywhere can’t be trusted to learn the basics before making public statements. Subdermal GPS chips don’t exist yet! You’re thinking of those microchips they scan at the vet’s office! And, once again, I can only hope the Sheriff was joking when he was talking about electrically shocking parolees who were doing things in violation of their probation. I can sort of see it working as an Invisible Fence for keeping people in a certain area — if you had the GPS tracking chips — but the last time I saw a chip that shocked someone because of their behavior, it was on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. ...

This is insane...

I really wanted not to comment on the Terri Schiavo case. I really wanted not to comment on it because I don’t think our comments matter. In the end, this is a personal, family matter that has been blown out of all proportion. (Yes, there are larger issues here, but what is happening to Terri Schiavo is happening across the United States right now with other patients and we haven’t been paying attention to them.) So, why am I commenting now? No good reason, other than to get it out of my head. ...

Nuke testing in "Sudan"

Hmm, I drove my sudan to work this morning. :) Looks like a transcript of a Congressional hearing came close to ruining the day for American and Sudanese government officials. Sometimes when you conduct secret nuclear tests in Sedan, it sounds like Sudan. What I’d like to know is what enterprising diplomat from Sudan came up with the idea of immediately blaming the U.S. for cancer cases from a nuclear test that didn’t happen there? I’m surprised that story didn’t get more play. ...

I know, I know

I haven’t posted in a while. Busy. Buying house. Working. Thinking about house. Celebrating. Inspecting house. All that kind of thing. :) Well, okay, I’m not that busy, but it does take a lot of energy. Cue the Saturday Night Live version of the first Presidential debate from 2004: Lehrer – And what happens in phase three? Bush – Jim, we’re still working on phase three. You know, huh, and believe me…we’re working hard…‘cause it’s, huh, it’s hard work…and we’re…working hard…every day…working evenings…ordering in…working hard together…now to answer your question, we don’t know all the details yet. But basically on phase three, we crush the terrorists and hold elections, so that the Iraqi people can choose their own destiny. Because I believe all people want freedom, don’t you? ...

Feeding My Ego, or The Making of a Dictator

While I’ve often thought of becoming a dictator, I had no idea my blog could lead me to such power. Seriously, this is a bizarre article. The author goes from Paris Hilton’s cameraphone to Saparmurat Niyazov, “President for Life” of Turkmenistan, in the space of seven paragraphs. It’s as if someone tried to edit a rambling thesis down to one page. Link courtesy of Techdirt, which needs to brush up on its dictators, but otherwise makes a good point. :) ...
